Summary and Suggestions

Purpose of Practicum

This program aims to prepare a good teacher to teach using English in their country or in another country in the future, it taught the teachers how to be a real and kind teacher. From this SEA-Teacher Program, the teacher can improve their communication skill in English. The teacher also can learn the culture from the other country, and can build relationship and have family there.

Procedure of Practicum

The procedure of practicum in one month of internship program are doing a lot of activities at TAU, those are Orientation in the College of Education, Class observation with the Cooperating Teacher, Teaching Practice, Teaching Assist, Teaching Evaluation, Reflection. In produce of teaching I used method of lecture demonstration, it similar with expository method but I combine it with students-center communication.

Outcomes of Practicum

From this practicum, the practice teacher can improve their English Proficiency, the practice teachers have so many experiences in teaching the students from another country and also the culture of the country, the practice teacher gains more knowledge regarding the teaching skill and pedagogy.

The Challenges of Practicum

The challenge is about the communication. Philippines used English as their 2nd language but not all of the students here can speak English. I have to give them to arrange the sentence in English if they want to give an idea about something. Indonesian and Philippinos have different accent in speaking English. My cooperating teacher, Mam Jeanette said I have to speak slowly, loudly and clearly to make them understand what i’m talking about.

Overall Impression

I got so many experiences in Philippines, I want to say thanks to SEAMEO, SEA-Teacher program, Padang State University, and Tarlac Agricultural University that have given me a chance to join this program. I learnt a lot here, all about the school, the teacher, the culture and also I’m so lucky to meet a lot of kind people here.

Suggestion for Future Improvement

The suggestion for the future improvement of this program is it worth to continue. My suggestion is TAU-LS teachers maybe for the future can make an orientation for all of the student teacher before doing observation and practice teaching. But all in all, TAU-LS and College of Education Tarlac Agricultural University were very helpful and make us satisfied with the facilities and their services.
